MHL
Our History
Since 1991, MHL have been the trusted lighting advisors and product suppliers for commercial, public and private projects, interior and exterior, across New Zealand.
OUR BEGINNINGS
Our story begins in 1991 when Mark Herring founded Quality Lamps and Lighting, providing top-quality lighting products to major New Zealand companies like Tegel and McDonald's. In 1994, managing Transpower's substation relighting project enhanced Mark's expertise in lighting design.
By the late 1990s, Quality Lamps and Lighting was distributing lighting products across Canterbury and the West Coast and had its first employees and an office in Christchurch to support the expanding business.
STEADY GROWTH AS MHL
In 2000, Quality Lamps and Lighting formally became Mark Herring Lighting Limited, with a team of four.
The business continued to grow steadily over the next decade, and in 2011, Mark and the team opened the first office on the North Island in Auckland. At the same time, MHL also expanded its product offering, representing a growing number of leading international lighting brands, including WE-EF, Hydro (formerly Sapa) and TAL.
NATIONWIDE GROWTH
For the past decade, MHL has been focused on nationwide growth and adding more leading brands to its portfolio.
In 2016 MHL hired a salesperson for the Wellington region, followed shortly after by a representative for Bay of Plenty and Waikato.
Between 2017 and 2019, MHL secured exclusive distribution rights for Trilux and Unios. Since then, the team has added further highly regarded brands, including Leadsun, Austube Schréder, and more.
